It was time, Ben knew it when he woke up that day. He started contemplating about his last few days where he had very little practice.
“I knew something was missing about the way he perceives his work as a bass player. I felt stagnated in life, which I have never felt before.”
Why? Ben answered while taking a sip out of his warm coffee in a Tattoo studio.
He has been playing the bass since early adolescence. He has just crossed his twenties and he felt it couldn't be better with the way things were improving. But one day when he was coming back from his rehearsals he started thinking about new ways to craft his art. He found out that he was out of ideas.
The next day morning at the rehearsals again, Ben observed his playing very minutely which is not the case every day. He understood that he is distracted and he needs to focus more. That day, he went back home, skipped his last meal and spent time on the instrument. But the more he played that day, the more frustrated he got about his present state. Though people appreciated what he played and his friends came to all his shows, he knew he had to do better. Somewhere deep down, he wasn't happy with his present state as a musician.
His band members started observing Ben and they immediately understood something was wrong and this went on for some weeks and finally the day came when Ben’s band members called him and told him that it's not working out, as he is distracted most of the time and they want to try out more musicians. He was heartbroken but he knew he needed to fix something.
That day he felt disconnected to everyone around him. He felt that he needed a serious turnaround. He knew he needed to get out of his routine and start practicing full time. But, how? He needed to think and to think he needed space. He decided to go back to the village where he taught a year ago. He left everything in the city and went to find himself again.
The next year was spent in enduring the depths of his own soul and he realized one thing about his art. He needs to make time his friend and at the same time, he needs to have the flair of Mother Nature to be the most creative in his art. He started observing things very minutely and started taking all the inspiration he could get and at the same time worked like a machine to achieve that level of perfection. He finally came back to where he started from.
This time he knew he would fail again but this time he knew how to fix it because whatever happens, he knew he is going to overcome and recreate.
When he finished the tale, he was done with his coffee too.
He wanted to remember this event because this made him who he is now. Ben had come to Bangalore andgoogled about the artists who make custom tattoo ideas. That led him to Trippink Tattoo studio to discuss this incident with Ritopriyo, senior most artist in the studio. There was a glow in his eyes that made the artist immediately sit with his pen and paper and design a piece appropriate enough. The design showed the functioning of a machine, with green-leaved creepers surrounding it. The design signifies the work efficiency of a machine and the beauty of life, which he needed to inculcate into his own craft.
The tattoo artist was mesmerized by the concept and being the best tattoo studio in Bangalore he had to come up with something that was unique and perfect in all senses. This Body art was special, he knew that. That is one of the reasons why he didn’t want to compromise. He got it inked on his right forearm so that he wakes up every day and gets constantly reminded about his purpose in life.
He dared to get his story inked. Would you?
